Building automation companies work hard to avert disaster every day. Whether it’s acting fast in a crisis or working to prevent one, here are three times Kimco’s commercial building automation, HVAC, and electrical experts saved the day.

When the unexpected happens, the right commercial building automation contractors should be able to help avoid disaster, save costs, and keep your workplace running.

When the unexpected happens, the right commercial building automation contractors should be able to help avoid disaster, save costs, and keep your workplace running.

Technologies are always running behind the scenes to make your life easier, especially in the building automation, HVAC, and electrical world. The fact that we don’t notice them is a good thing: these everyday comforts should be out of sight and out of mind. But when there’s a hiccup—that’s when our electrician and commercial building automation contractors get to really shine. Here are three times Kimco saved the day:

Preserving heritage while lowering costs: Mirabel Vineyards

When this small-scale winery in the Okanagan wanted to expand its operations with an on-site tasting room and retail space in an existing heritage timber structure on the vineyard grounds. The costs of meeting modern building requirements and providing power to the space quoted with FortisBC were astronomical.

By working with FortisBC and coming up with creative solutions, our HVAC and electrical contractors in Kelowna were able to:

  • Lower costs substantially for the winery
  • Help maintain the heritage features and aesthetics of the building
  • Provide the same considerations for the building’s HVAC systems

Heating and cooling malfunction at 40°C: Pushor Mitchell Lawyers

While a replacement part for the air conditioning system at Pushor Mitchell Lawyers in Kelowna was on order, the unthinkable happened: the compressor blew during a 40-plus degree Celsius heatwave.

Thankfully, Pushor Mitchell was an early adopter of DDC building automation. Drawing on their intimate knowledge of the building’s commercial HVAC controls, Kimco’s DDC controls experts sprung into action, applying a number of creative solutions until the replacement part arrived two weeks later,  including:

  • Adjustments to the building automation systems
  • A temporary sprinkler system on condenser coils to prevent circuit overloading.

Disruption-free critical safety upgrades: Nav Canada

The Nav Canada air traffic control tower in Kamloops was in dire need of equipment upgrades. Failure of the current equipment could be disastrous. At the same time, avoiding any disruption to building services was of the utmost importance—even temperature.

Using the latest technology and with zero impact on operations, Kimco provided a complete control system replacement, including:

  • Web-based software and system hardware, serving HVAC plant and zone control and backed up by a UPS system
  • Supply and installation of a refrigerant, natural gas, and carbon monoxide leak detection system
  • Utility metering
